The Eugene Composers Big Band is a unique project, providing an exciting musical experience for audiences and musicians alike. The band features new music by local composers, and includes some of the finest musicians in the Eugene area.
Organized in the summer of 2013, the ECBB was the brainchild of director and composer Jessika Smith. Although similar groups have existed in Eugene, this particular band has been dedicated to performing new works by local musicians since August 2013.
ECBB continues a long tradition of live big band music, and provides a platform for local composers to have their music performed for a live audience.
Audiences get the exciting experience of hearing fresh new music, often performed live for the very first time. Since most of the music is written by members of the band, audiences hear the music in a unique context they won't find anywhere else.
There is an energy in the air that isn't found at your average jazz show. That energy comes from a collection of the areas finest musicians performing new music at the highest possible level. The band, the music and the audience together provide an incredible experience, and a night of music you won't soon forget.
